Papi will be home for a while longer

This morning we went in for Mauri's doctor's appointment.  Eric went over to his Spanish grandparent’s house so that I could accompany him a bit more easily.
First, he went for a new x-ray, which actually went quite quickly.
Then we headed for the appointment with the trauma doctor that has been following his case.  The wait for him was a bit longer, but we eventually got called to go in to see him.  The doctor is a bit dry, and it is hard to get him to talk very much, but he does try to answer all questions, and he seems to know what he is doing for the most part.  Overall, I actually think I like him.
He called up a picture of the x-ray, and at first stated how Mauri still had a huge hole.  He showed us the picture, and it mostly looked like we remembered the first x-ray a month ago.  So, we got nervous.  Afterwards, though, he stated that he could see "callous" forming, and that the pelvis was still stable and in the right position.
"It's looking good."
We were expecting to know at this appointment whether or not they were going to have to operate on Mauri's pelvis or not, but we were still a bit unsure.
He then called up a picture of the x-ray from a month ago and viewed it beside today's x-ray.  He turned the screen towards us so that we could take a look.  Mauri didn't see much of a difference because the borders of the area of missing bone are still quite well demarcated.  I did see what the doctor was talking about, though.  Rather than see bone starting to form from the cut borders, as might be expected, I noticed that the entire area was a little more radio opaque.  Basically, you could see a thin, white cloudy area over the "hole."
So, we should continue as is, and come back in six weeks to have another look.
Papi is funny.
Mauri said something about us trying to avoid a surgery, and the doctor nodded, but didn't say anything else about it.  So, we left knowing that Mauri isn't scheduled for surgery, but not much else.  I guess it's still a "wait-and-see" situation.  As luck would have it, the doctor's schedule is packed, and Mauri couldn't get another appointment until Oct. 19th.  The doctor finally had openings after the 5th of October, but he only comes on Wednesdays, and October 12th is a holiday.  So, rather than coming back in 6 weeks for another look, we won't be back in until 9 more weeks have gone by.  Mauri was a little bit frustrated because he was hoping that the doctor would tell him that he could start lightly walking on that leg.  The doctor told him not to do that, though, since the pressure on the area in question could end up breaking through the pelvis.  So, really we have no new news, and things will be the same around here for the next couple of months.
Playing with papi is fun!!
The good thing about having Mauri in crutches is that he is home to see how little Eric grows up more than he was ever able to see him before.  Up until now, he really only saw him for less than an hour each night during the week, and on the weekends.
Eric has been just as crazy as usual.  We've cleaned up the pool again, and I've been bringing him out to the pool for a little while each day to play with him there.  He really loves playing in the water, and I was getting sick of him splashing out all of his bath water at night.  Now, he gets it out of his system in the pool, and bath time isn't quite so messy.
My only complaint lately is his new phase of throwing huge temper tantrums every time I put him down to change his diaper!!  There are times that it is almost impossible for me to do it by myself, and he kicks his little legs all over and starts to scream, even if he was laughing and happy seconds before.  The second I sit him back up, he immediately is happy again, and seems like a completely different little person!!
I ended up doing a bit of Google research, and it seems that I am not the only one with this problem around this age.  It seems that a lot of babies at Eric's age are so preoccupied with trying to stand up, walk and play, that they can't bear to stop for a few seconds to have their diapers changed!!
Otherwise things with him are mostly the same as usual.  He spends the day laughing at the dogs, playing with the toys that make sounds and music mostly, says "ay" a lot, and tries to play with papi's remote controls.
Meanwhile, I've been playing a little bit more with fondants, modeling chocolate recipes, and ideas for birthday cakes.  I was trying to come up with an idea for Mauri's cake, since his birthday comes a few days before Eric's, and think I finally have it decided.  For now, though, it will remain a surprise.  I’m looking forward to both of their birthdays, so I have an excuse to make their cakes.
